A little bit about me...
I am Baltimore-born, a former NY'er, a Philadelphia enthusiast (Temple University alum), and I am honored to call Atlanta my home! Through dance, I have engaged with a vast and diverse array of communities, and I am grateful.
As a dance artist and educator, I work in the intersections of creative practice, research, African Diaspora movement aesthetics, and community interaction to discover ways that dance can serve as a practice of inquiry, empathy, and empowerment. I enjoy collaborating with artists, community organizations, and academic institutions to explore how dance can address their unique needs, interests, and goals.
I am a Senior Lecturer of Contemporary Dance with a focus on African Diaspora movement aesthetics at Spelman College in the Department of Dance Performance and Choreography. I serve as the Curator for the department's lecture series, Inside the Dancers' Studio, bringing audiences and artists together to dissect unique creative practices, scholarship, and leading strategies in the field of dance.
I am a co-founding editor of The Dancer-Citizen, an online, open-access, peer-reviewed dance journal exploring the work of socially engaged artists. I serve as a strategist/advisor for Lela Aisha Jones | Flyground and the Dancing for Justice Philadelphia initiative. Through Moving Our Stories, LLC, I offer artistic programming centered on the exploration and exchange of embodied memory and storytelling.
I earned a PhD in Dance at Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance, where my research focused on meanings and experiences of ‘community’ in a West African Dance class in Philadelphia.
